BIRTH JUSTICE WARRIORS SECOND COHORT TRAINED IN NASSAU COUNTY      

On October 24 the second cohort of Birth Justice Warriors were trained! We were hosted by the Visiting Nurse Service of New York and worked with nurses from the Nurse-Family Partnership Nassau, doulas and community members. We know you will bring a fresh perspective to the work of birth equity in Nassau County. Welcome aboard to our newest Birth Justice Warriors!

THE MARCH OF DIMES #BLANKETCHANGE AGENDA

We love the new campaign from the March of Dimes! #blanketchange is focused on preventing women from dying from pregnancy-related causes. Just in time for Election Day, check out this powerful video about their campaign and go to their website for great social media materials to share about maternal mortality awareness.  

BIRTH JUSTICE WARRIORS EVENT:

November is Prematurity Awareness Month. The Birth Justice Warriors will be participating in a community breakfast in Westbury at the North Shore Child/Family Guidance Center- The Leeds Place on November 19 from 9am TO 11am . If you are interested in attending, click here to register.

A NEW MIDWIFE IN TOWN

The Birth Justice Warriors want to say a big welcome to Takiya Sakina Ballard! Takiya is a licensed nurse midwife who specializes in home births and is the owner of Sakina Midwifery Service in Hempstead and all round birth equity rock star! Visit her website for more information.

Birth Justice Warriors is submitting a letter of intent in collaboration with North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center for funding from Merck for Mothers for the “Safer Childbirth Cities” Initiative to Support Locally Created Solutions to Improve Maternal Health and Reduce DisparitiesBirth Justice Warriors will be spreading the word at the Fidelis Care/St. Brigid’s Parish 11th Annual Health Fair on Sunday November 11 from 10am-2pm in the St. Brigid’s Auditorium at 101 Maple Avenue in Westbury…Planned Parenthood Nassau County will be sponsoring a screening and panel discussion of the documentary Death by Delivery–stay tuned for updates…We are working on developing ‘birth justice’ informed Childbirth Education classes for families of color in Nassau County in early 2019…Interested in having a Birth Justice Warrior training at your site?  Contact us!
